Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia was unable to reverse the bad moment she has been going through on the court in recent months and was eliminated this Sunday (24) in the first round of the Roland Garros Grand Slam, in Paris, France.
Currently 105th in the WTA (Professional Tennis Players Association) rankings, the 29-year-old from São Paulo was defeated by the British Francesca Jones, 102nd in the rankings, by 2 sets to 1, with splits of 1/6, 7/6 (4) and 6/2, in 2h42 of the match.
The two had already faced each other once on the circuit, in 2021, in the final of the WTA 125 Elle Spirit Open, in Switzerland, when Bia Haddad defeated Jones by 6/4 and 6/3.
In the second round of the Grand Slam on French clay, the British face the Czech Marie Bouzkova (28th).
In the worst position in the WTA rankings since 2020, the Brazilian tennis player suffered her fifth consecutive defeat on the circuit.
Her last victory was in the round of 16 of the WTA 125 in La Bisbal, Spain, at the end of April. On that occasion, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Spanish Marina Bassols Ribera, then 183rd in the rankings.
Since then, the Brazilian fell in the first round at the WTA 1000 in Rome, the WTA 125 in Paris and the WTA 500 in Strasbourg.
Semi-finalist at Roland Garros in 2023, when she stopped only against the Polish Iga Swiatek, then leader of the ranking, Bia had already been eliminated in the first round of the tournament in the last two years.
