An agreement between the United States and Iran is not expected to be signed this Sunday (24), he told CNN a senior American government official. According to the authority, details of the agreement are still being negotiated.
Iran has committed in principle to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and disposing of its stockpile of highly enriched uranium as part of the deal with the United States, another administration official said.
Exactly how to dispose of this stockpile still needs to be negotiated, the official added, as does the length of a moratorium on future uranium enrichment.
Sanctions relief and the unlocking of Iranian assets would only occur if the country reopens and Iran meets its commitments to negotiate restrictions on its nuclear program, the official said.
The specific dollar amount Iran would receive as part of the deal has not yet been negotiated, the official added.
The information comes one day after President Donald Trump stated that an agreement between the United States and Iran was in place, signaling possible progress towards the end of the war that has lasted months.
There is still no certainty that this draft will become a final agreement.
