Driver involved in accident with 8 deaths in MG is missing

One of the bus drivers who was involved in an accident with a trailer this Sunday (24) is missing. The collision happened on BR-251 in Santa Cruz de Salinas, in the North of Minas Gerais, and caused a fire, leaving eight people dead.

According to the CBMMG (Minas Gerais Military Fire Department), there were two bus drivers. One of them contributed to the rescue, but has not been found since.. He was identified as Washington de Jesus Durval, from Aracaju, Sergipe.

The accident occurred around 6 am and the occurrence was initially registered in the km 236 of the highway. The bus and the box trailer, loaded with wheels and automotive parts, collided and were consumed by flames after the impact. Check it out in the video below:

There were 19 victims of the accident. Among them are:

  • Eight dead, sent to the Belo Horizonte IML for identification
  • Nine were taken to hospitals
  • A body not found
  • A driver who was never seen again

Five of the eight dead were found charred and stuck to the bus’s hardware.. Among the fatal victims, the military confirmed the presence of a b. The injured were treated by ambulances from Taiobeiras, Pedra Azul and Medina, some victims received treatment on site and did not need hospital transport.

In audio sent to CNN, firefighters reported that the vehicles’ hardware was heavily twisted, which which made access to the inside of the bus difficult. There are indications that the dead included a child, apparently between 10 and 11 years old, but this information has not yet been officially confirmed.

For now, there is no confirmation whether these are due to the impact of the collision or fire that hit the vehicles after the crash. Firefighters also ruled out the initial hypothesis that a third vehicle was involved: parts scattered across the road were part of the cargo transported by the trailer.

According to the PRF, there were no deaths among the occupants of the truck, the driver of the vehicle is hospitalized and must undergo surgery.

A BR-251 already been . According to an estimate provided by the teams that worked on the incident, the congestion reached around 70 kilometers in both directions of the road during the closure.
