Canada renews coach Jesse Marsch until the 2030 World Cup

Coach Jesse Marsch has signed a four-year contract extension with Canada, valid until the 2030 World Cup, the Canadian Soccer Federation said on Monday.

The American took charge in 2024, succeeding John Herdman, and led Canada to fourth place in the 2024 Copa América, in addition to reaching 26th place in the FIFA rankings last year, its best placement.

“From day one, I felt a deep connection to this team, this country and the direction of the program,” Marsch said in a statement.

“I’m thrilled to make a long-term commitment here, helping to develop this program over the coming years and continuing to propel this group to the highest level.”

Canada, which along with the United States and Mexico, automatically qualified for the tournament, is preparing to announce its final squad later this week.

Marsch, former coach of Leeds United and RB Leipzig, has a record of 12 wins, 12 draws and five defeats with Canada.

The Canadian Soccer Federation said the extra time was largely funded by five Canadian families and fans linked to the men’s national team program.

Canada hosts on June 1st before facing Ireland on June 5th in their final World Cup warm-up game.

Marsch’s team on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, before facing Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 in Vancouver.
