The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), spoke this Friday, the 29th, for the first time about the radiotherapy he is undergoing because of cancer removed from his scalp. The PT member did not elaborate on the subject, but said that he is undergoing treatment and that any citizen will be able to have access to equipment similar to that of the hospital where he is being treated.
Lula had not yet spoken publicly about the matter. The president’s health is one of the main points of attention in his campaign.
The speech was during a visit to the first interstate oncology hospital in the country, in Sergipe (SE).
“I want to thank the deputies and senators for their contribution with their amendments. Today, the poorest person in this country, if they have to undergo radiotherapy, they will do it on the same machine as the president of the United States, China or Brazil. I’m doing radiotherapy on my head. Anyone (who is going to do it) will do it on a machine like the one I do, because I’m no better than you”, declared the president, showing his head to those present.
The PT member’s speech was brief. He repeated a series of points that are recurrent in his speech. He said that the new PAC was prepared with the help of all governors, whether they are opposition or allied with the federal government, and that it has a record investment of R$1.8 trillion, which he called the “largest investment in infrastructure in the history of the country”.
The president also defended his government’s programs, such as Farmácia Popular. He questioned why no other government official before him created a similar program. Lula placed the use of artificial intelligence tools in politics under suspicion, which, according to him, “could lead you (voters) to put a fox in a henhouse”.
