Space has a reading room, area for research and studies and tables with computers
Last week, IBGE reopened the Isaac Kerstenetzky Library – Memory and Technology Space, in a new space at Palácio da Fazenda, in the center of Rio. Closed since 2019, the place brings together books, theses, periodicals, photographs, maps and data collection instruments.
The library will now have its collection open, allowing users to browse the shelves and consult the books directly. The space has a reading room, an area for research and studies, tables with computers and a room with a sofa, offering more comfort and modernity to the public.
The president of IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, participated in the inauguration, highlighting that the space demonstrates the importance of preserving memory.
“The Institute reconstituted itself and brought publications to this location, with the recovery of old books and the partnerships made, marks the commitment to look to the future without forgetting where we came from. In addition to the commitment we had in the past, which encourages us to continue forward, as this is what society expects from IBGE”these.
José Daniel Castro, coordinator of Documentation and Information Dissemination, classified the reopening as a gift.
“I thank all the CDDI who worked on reopening this space, and just like in my life, I reinforce the importance of books in a person’s life. Even in the digital age, people are reading more and more”he declared.
Interactive map
On the same day, IBGE inaugurated a new interactive map measuring 60 m², representing the world map, which shows the richness of species and the representation of continents in real proportions. The inauguration was held at the PINTEC launch event at Casa Brasil IBGE.
Visitors will be able to walk over the inverted map, interacting with this information dissemination element. This technological and scientific initiative will provide the Institute with the opportunity to intensify and strengthen relationships with the entire school and academic community, visitors and society.
The launch of the new Interactive Map, due to its meaning of innovation and creativity, gives Casa Brasil IBGE the atmosphere of a true reopening in the spirit of the institute’s 90 years.
