The United States classified the PCC and the Red Command (CV) as terrorist organizations. Brazil’s financial system could “shake”.
The Brazilian Government stated that the United States’ decision to classify the PCC and the Red Command (CV) as terrorist organizations he can affect the national financial system and innovations such as PIX.
In a note released by Palácio do Planalto, the executive defended that Brazil is fighting a “permanent fight” against criminal factions and militias, but criticized possible unilateral measures adopted by foreign authorities.
According to the Government, the terror caused by factions seeks “profit through crime” and cannot be confused with “actions motivated by ideological, political or religious reasons associated with international terrorism”.
In the statement, he also accused members of the Bolsonaro family of encouraging “foreign interference” in Brazil’s internal affairs by seeking support from US authorities.
“AND deplorable which, once again, members of the Bolsonaro family travel to the United States to defend foreign intervention in Brazil”he declared.
Although he did not mention by name Flávio Bolsonaro, the note is a criticism of the senator and pre-candidate for President of Brazil in the October elections and the former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, who lives in the USA, having lost his mandate in the Chamber of Deputies.
Flávio met this week, in Washington, with the North American President, Donald Trump, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, occasion in which he defended the classification of the two largest criminal factions in Brazil as terrorists.
In the statement, the Brazilian Government argued that “measures unilateral, If not negotiated, they can weaken the fight against criminals and generate actions that put the lives of people who have nothing to do with the crimes at risk.”
These measures, according to Palácio do Planalto, may still to harm international cooperation in combating organized crime and compromising the sharing of information between police forces.
“They can affect our financial system and national innovations like PIX, which bother foreign interests“, he emphasized.
This instant payment system, developed by the Central Bank of Brazil, and very popular in the country, came into the sights of the White House during a commercial investigation opened in July 2025.
PIX was classified “a unfair practice”, Brazil has a system that is harmful to credit card giants, such as Visa and Mastercard.
The European Parliament, in turn, has shown strong enthusiasm for the Brazilian payment system, and sees Brazil’s experience as an example for the future implementation of the digital euro in Europe.
In the note, Palácio do Planalto states that it presented to the US State Department, in April, a proposal for cooperation based on intelligence and combating money laundering and international arms trafficking.
It reiterates that Brazil accepts international collaboration in the fight against organized crime, but rejects “arbitrary measures coming from abroad” that could affect Brazilian sovereignty and the economy.
“A national sovereignty is non-negotiable”, he concluded.
Earlier, during an event in Sergipe, Brazilian President Lula da Silva referred to Flávio Bolsonaro as “traitor of the country” and said that Brazil will not accept being treated as a “republic” by the USA.
The Brazilian vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin, suggested that the repercussion of the US decision, celebrated by the Bolsonarists, was being used politically, after weeks of wear and tear on Flávio due to the controversy surrounding his involvement with the imprisoned former banker Daniel Vorcaro, from Banco Master.
“That’s it bad for Brazil. It could have consequences in the area of the financial system, in the area of the economy. It won’t solve anything in terms of fighting crime and could harm the economy”, he declared.
The US State Department announced that it intends to designate Brazil’s two largest criminal factions as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs), expanding sanctions and financial restrictions against the groups.
The measure will come into force on June 5th.
