Kuwait intercepts missiles and drones as Iran announces attack on US base

Kuwait announced this Monday that “it is facing attacks with missiles and drones”, while Iran for its part has announced the launch of an attack against a United States base in response to a previous offensive.

The General Staff of the Kuwaiti army reports in Likewise, it urges the population to follow “the safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.”

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) said early Monday morning that it responded to a US offensive against a telecommunications tower in the south of the country by launching an attack on a US air base. “Following the aggression of the US army against a telecommunications tower on the island of Sirik (…), fighters of the IRGC Aerospace Force attacked the air base from which said aggression originated,” the elite military body said in a statement collected by the Tasnim agency, linked to it. The text does not specify where the US base is and adds that “the intended targets were destroyed.”

The United States has announced that it launched several attacks against Iran over the weekend, in response to “aggressive actions” by the Persian country, including the downing of a drone in international waters.

Washington and Tehran are negotiating—with Pakistan’s mediation—a peace plan to end the war. US President Donald Trump held a meeting with his security team on Friday to make a “final” decision on the issue that concluded without an agreement, according to US media. On Sunday, Trump stressed that his proposal includes detailed clauses on the Iranian nuclear program, after his country’s press reported that he had asked to amend some provisions of the draft on which both sides have been working for weeks. His message came after different media, citing sources close to the negotiations, assured that the New York magnate asked to amend some aspects of the document related to Iran’s nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
