Modern, historic, orchard, multi-flowered, large-flowered… Please try to find one garden where not a single rose grows. There probably won’t be many of them. “What is wonderful about roses is their variability. Both in size and, for example, in the colors of the flowers,” Jiří Malaska says in the iReceptář podcast.

Even if you will have to wait a few more months for the actual planting and you will be pleased with the first flowers before next year, you can easily start planning right away. After all, orders for autumn shipping start in June. These are five of our favorites. Among them you will find orchard, historical and modern varieties. And all of them will stand out beautifully in your garden.
With the biggest flower
That’s why most roses are bred, that’s also why gardeners and gardeners are looking for new and new varieties. Large-flowered roses can really impress, and if you choose the cultivar ‘Peace’, you may well end up with the largest in the world – he is the champion in this field. It has flowers as large as fifteen centimeters in diameter.
They form rather compact bushes that grow only slightly higher than a meter. It blooms from June to early September and will do well in a permeable, loose, moist loamy-sandy soil. It does not like overwatering and requires a stronger maintenance cut.
Beautiful all year round
Or at least for the entire rose season. Polyantkas are modern roses that bloom continuously from the beginning of summer to autumn and thus brighten up the garden for many months. Including, for example, the beautifully red cultivar ‘Cayenne’.
They usually form compact bushes, but there is no need to cut them significantly. In most cases, it is sufficient to prune and remove damaged or dry branches in the spring. And just like other roses, they will appreciate covering and mulching for the winter, which protects the roots.
A surprising fragrance
The grape rose grows relatively commonly in the wild. You may have missed it so far, because it’s not particularly noticeable. “It got its name because winemakers traditionally grow it around vineyards,” says the head of the Olomouc rosary. So what makes this shrub, an orchard rose growing up to two meters tall, special? Its leaves smell strongly of green apples. And when it blooms, this fragrance spreads calmly up to two meters around. It thrives on limestone soil rather in lower positions.
Two-tone
Two-tone roses will please those who cannot decide whether they prefer yellow or pink, white, red or perhaps orange. Two colors combine gracefully in its flowers. You can find representatives among all types of roses, but the climbing cultivar ‘Händel’ is especially elegant.
It blooms reliably and repeatedly from May to September, while the shoots stretch up to a length of two and a half meters. But it needs good support to grow. It is delicately scented and will thrive in a sunny, airy location in well-drained soil with plenty of nutrients.
Almost indestructible
Centifolia rose, has long been cultivated as an antiviral agent and for its fragrant essential oils. It probably comes from the Caucasus, and even if it only blooms at the beginning of summer, it is worth drying its slices and hiding them, for example, as an ingredient in herbal tea.
It is unpretentious, but it will do better in the sun. The original bush can grow up to three meters, more modern cultivars tend to be lower and form more compact bushes. It withstands frost well and needs moisture during the season, but beware of overwatering.
