The landing gear of a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner collapsed and the aircraft tilted on its nose when it was about to board passengers at Frankfurt airport this Thursday (4), leaving several employees injured, the German airline said.

The incident occurred at 12:45 pm (7:45 am Brasília time), shortly before passengers boarded the aircraft, which was supposed to fly to Los Angeles.

The front landing gear “retracted unexpectedly while the plane was parked”, a company spokeswoman told AFP.

Crew members and ground personnel were on board, and several of them were injured and received medical care, informed the company.

Another Lufthansa spokesman told AFP on Thursday night that the injured suffered only minor injuries. They were taken to the hospital for treatment. The flight to Los Angeles was cancelled.

“At this moment, experts are on site inspecting the aircraft,” Lufthansa said.

The plane is expected to be taken to a hangar on Thursday night, “where further inspections will be carried out before the aircraft is repaired”the company added.

According to the Aerotelegraph website, the damaged plane is only a year old and was delivered to Lufthansa in January.
