World Cup 2026: Shakira will perform at the opening ceremony – 06/05/2026 – Illustrated

Colombian singer Shakira will perform in Mexico City at the first of three opening ceremonies for the 2026 World Cup.

The host team and South Africa will play the opening match of the competition next Thursday (11) at the Azteca stadium, in the Mexican capital.

FIFA planned opening ceremonies in the competition’s other two host countries, the United States and Canada, before the other opening matches.

Shakira will sing “Dai Dai”, the tournament’s official song, alongside Nigerian singer Burna Boy. Colombian J Balvin and South African Tyla will also perform at the ceremony in Mexico City.

“Dai Dai” marks another participation by the artist on the World Cup tracks, after “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, from the 2010 edition, and “La La La”, from the 2014 World Cup, held in Brazil.

The images for the music video for “Dai Dai” were recorded at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro. Before the official launch, the singer had already released previews of the production on her social networks, which increased fans’ expectations.

In addition to the official song, Shakira is also confirmed as one of the attractions for the first halftime show of the World Cup final, at the MetLife stadium, in New Jersey, in the United States. The show is inspired by the traditional format of Super Bowl presentations.

Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline the opening ceremony in Toronto, before Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina take the field at BMO Field next Friday (12).

In the United States, Anitta, Katy Perry and rapper Future will perform before the match between the USA and Paraguay on the same day at the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles.
