The ship hit was a unit called DURU 67 sailing under the Turkish flag off the coast of Crimea, west of Sevastopol. The vessel sank after the attack. Turkish authorities have not yet released any further information about the circumstances under which the incident took place, nor have they indicated who could be behind the attack.
Sunken vessel
Another Turkish fishing boat, which was nearby at the time, came to the aid of the crew of the sunken ship. The five-member crew of the affected vessel managed to be evacuated. The Coast Guard specified that one of the fishermen was in serious condition and succumbed to his injuries during the evacuation operation.
At the end of May, Turkey already warned of the risk of “uncontrolled escalation” in the Black Sea after a drone hit a Turkish cargo ship there. According to the statement of the Ukrainian Navy, the attack at the time was attributed to Russia.
