LGBT+ parade in São Paulo brought together 36,800 people, says USP

Calculation is made with aerial photos analyzed by artificial intelligence software; margin of error is 12%

The 30th LGBT+ Pride Parade brought together around 36,800 people on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo, this Sunday (June 7, 2026), according to a survey by the Political Debate Monitor of the (Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning at the University of São Paulo) and the . The estimate has a margin of error of 12%, or 4,400 people more or less. As a result, the audience at peak time was between 32,300 and 41,200 participants. The count was made from aerial photos captured by drone and analyzed with software of artificial intelligence.

Photos were taken at 6 times: 11:32 am, 12:22 pm, 12:58 pm, 1:32 pm, 2:12 pm and 2:37 pm. For the final count, the researchers selected 27 images recorded at 2:37 pm, which covered the entire extent of the event, without overlapping.

The methodology used is the Point to Point Network, known as P2PNet. In the method, software trained on images of crowds analyzes aerial images to automatically identify and mark people’s heads. The system then counts the points detected in the photos, including in areas with greater public density.

According to the report, the method has a precision of 72.9% and an accuracy of 69.5% in identifying each individual. In practice, this represents an average absolute percentage error of 12% for groups above 500 people. The image bank used in the count was made available for and manual validation.

The estimated peak audience for the Parade in 2026 was lower than that recorded in the previous 2 years using the same methodology. In 2024, the survey indicated 73.600 people. In 2025, they were 48.700. In 2026, the number dropped to 36.800 participants during peak hours.
