Chamber should vote on agreement between Mercosur and Efta on Wednesday – 06/08/2026 – Panel

The free trade agreement between the Efta (European Free Trade Association) must be voted on by Wednesday (10). The expectation is that parliamentarians will ratify the treaty.

The issue had been treated with concern by diplomats who feared that the electoral calendar would prevent the agreement from being confirmed.

But Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS) entered the field and in an interview with the President of the Chamber, (-PB), reached an agreement to vote on the text this week.

The two blocks from last year, but the text still needs to be ratified by the National Congress for it to come into force.

In recent months, however, the parliament between Mercosur and the (EU). The fear is that the final vote will be delayed after the recess and the start of the electoral campaign will prevent the treaty from coming into force.

Mercosur and Efta represent almost 300 million inhabitants and a GDP of more than US$4.39 trillion. It is made up of Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
