Relationship with North Korea is a priority for the CCP, says Xi

The Chinese president will make his first visit to North Korean territory since 2019 this Monday (June 8, 2026).

The president of China, (Communist Party of China), stated in an article published in Rodong Sinmun –official newspaper of North Korea– this Monday (June 8, 2026) which “maintain, consolidate and develop China-Democratic People’s Republic of Korea relations [como os chineses se referem à Coreia do Norte] has always been an unshakable policy of the CCP [Partido Comunista da China] and the Chinese government”.

For the Chinese leader, diplomacy between the countries is at a “new historical starting point” and both must deepen relations “to jointly promote the stable development of the socialist cause in both countries”. Xi wrote that North Korea should ally with China in seeking reforms at the UN (United Nations) and defended greater cultural integration and expanded exchanges between the countries.

The article was published on the same day that Xi arrived in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. This is the Chinese leader’s first visit to North Korea in 7 years. Xi was received at the airport by the North Korean supreme leader, . The last meeting between the 2 was in Beijing, in September 2025.
