MPTCU calls for investigation of risks of US tariff measures

The MPTCU (Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Federal Court of Auditors) asked the Court of Auditors to investigate the consequences of economic and tariff measures adopted by the United States government against Brazil, including the recent intensification of offensives against Pix.

In the case opened in the Court, the deputy attorney, Lucas Furtado, asks the reporting minister, Antonio Anastasia, to verify which of the measures implemented by the North American government of Republican Donald Trump have the potential to cause damage to the treasury and national economic sovereignty.

The technical analysis is carried out by the AudBancos unit, responsible for examining the actions of North American management with a focus on direct impacts on strategic pillars of the Brazilian economy.

Among the points under assessment are the possible compromise of federal public accounts, possible damage to the flow of foreign trade and risks to the integrity and functioning of the public financial infrastructure, with emphasis on the instant payments system – Pix.

According to the representation, the objective is to identify whether external measures may affect the stability of the national financial system and generate adverse effects of a fiscal, exchange rate or operational nature, requiring possible preventive or corrective action by the responsible bodies.
