Fábio Rogério Carvalho, CEO of ABR, states that dealerships want more competition and that the country has sufficient infrastructure to grow demand
The president of (Aeroportos do Brasil), declared, in an interview with Poder360 on Sunday (June 7, 2026), that Brazil has the necessary infrastructure to expand the airline sector, but needs “competitiveness” to attract more companies to operate. He spoke after a panel at the (International Air Transport Association) in Rio de Janeiro.
ABR represents the concession airports in Brazil. According to Carvalho, Brazilian terminals “process [entrada e saída de passageiros] in an international quality”but there is still “challenges” to be overcome.
“All Brazilian private airports have a gap in capacity to process passengers. Today, the biggest challenge in aviation is not having airport infrastructure. That has been resolved. But being able to attract competitiveness to this market, with more companies, more routes… This is our main challenge as a country”declared the representative.
Carvalho states that technology and artificial intelligence can help the sector improve security by including an extra step in verifying traveler information.
“Today we are discussing processes such as the biometric boarding process. There are some measures to improve security. But all of this is already in a phase of expansion and improvement of what is already implemented”he stated.

Carvalho states that the problems faced by airlines also reflect on the movement of airports and, therefore, must be observed carefully. “What’s bad for the bee is bad for the hive.”
“Every time I sit down with a CEO of an international airline […]they usually ask 3 questions. First question: how are you in Brazil dealing with the issue of fuel, which is the most expensive in the world? There is a price logic that we need to face. Second question: what about tax reform? After tax reform, how much tax will I pay? And we will have a very high tax burden. The 3rd question: what about luggage? Can I charge or can I not charge? We have been discussing this type of thing for 10 years”he declares.
