FlixBus announced the creation of two new road connections between Portugal and Spain, with departures from Lisbon and Braga and destinations in Badajoz and Madrid, respectively. According to , the expansion also includes new intermediate stops and reinforces the German operator’s presence in inland areas, with tickets starting at less than 15 euros.
The Lisbon–Badajoz connection also marks the company’s entry into Alto Alentejo, allowing direct connections to several border locations. According to the same source, Elvas, Borba and Estremoz are now integrated into the operator’s international network, along with new connections to Setúbal and Montemor-o-Novo.
The route will be operated with two daily schedules, one in each direction, departing from Gare do Oriente at 9:45 am and from Badajoz at 4:25 pm. The estimated duration of the journey is less than four hours, which places this connection among the fastest on the Iberian road axis.
Expansion also reaches the North
In the case of the new Madrid–Braga connection, the service will be available every day of the week, with two daily schedules in opposite directions. According to the same source, departures from Madrid begin at 00:15 h, from the Spanish capital’s airport, while the journey from Braga departs at 22:45 h from the Transport Coordinating Center.
This connection reinforces the connection between Minho and the Spanish capital, including direct access to Madrid-Barajas airport, one of the main international hubs on the Iberian Peninsula.
Wider network and new stops
NiT says that the new offer is not limited to the two main cities, as the Lisbon–Badajoz operation also introduces direct connections to several locations in the interior of Alentejo and the border. This reinforcement makes it possible to shorten distances between areas with lower population density and the main urban corridors.
In statements cited by the publication, the director of operations at FlixBus in Portugal, Tiago Cavaco Alves, highlights that the expansion represents an important step in the company’s strategy in the country. “The arrival of FlixBus in Extremoz, Borba and Elvas marks an important moment in the expansion of our network in Portugal”, he said.
The official also adds that the objective is to reduce territorial asymmetries. “The new expansion will contribute to reducing asymmetries between coast and interior, promoting greater territorial cohesion and boosting the economic development of territories with low population density”, he said.
Tickets for the new connections are now available via the FlixBus app and website, as well as physical points of sale and partner travel agencies. Prices start at 14.99 euros for the Braga–Madrid connection and 11.99 euros for Lisbon–Badajoz.
There are also more economical options on internal routes associated with the new routes, with prices starting at 9.49 euros between Lisbon and Elvas and 8.49 euros for Lisbon–Estremoz, reinforcing the commitment to low-cost fares in international road transport.
Expanding Iberian mobility
The operator also highlights the growing role of long-distance road transport in the current context. In statements cited by the same source, the company highlights that the demand for more accessible and sustainable mobility solutions has increased, especially in a context of pressure on energy costs.
With these new connections, FlixBus reinforces its presence on the Iberian axis, expanding the network to areas until now less served by direct international transport.
