The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira (PSD), said this Tuesday (June 9, 2026) that the government will debate at the next meeting of the CNPE (National Energy Policy Council) the advancement of the mandatory blend of ethanol in gasoline from 30% (E30) to 32% (E32). The meeting will be scheduled in the next 15 dias.

Silveira made the announcement after with representatives from the ethanol sector, who have been pushing for progress in blending. The measure directly favors the segment, which will increase its participation in the national fuel market with the new mandatory content.

“The necessary technical studies allow us to go to E32, based on an indication brought by the sector today and which will be submitted by determination of the President of the Republic to the next National Energy Policy Council, which will be scheduled in the next 15 days, so that we can definitely debate, and I hope to deliberate, the topic”Silveira told journalists at Palácio do Planalto.

After 2 postponements, the E32 analysis of the CNPE has been advanced for at least 1 month. The topic was on the agenda of the meeting initially scheduled for May 7, which was postponed to May 11 and later cancelled. On the occasion, Silveira, who presides over the collegiate, traveled with the president (PT) to meet with the president of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party).

In recent months, congressmen, associations, companies and executives linked to the biofuels segment the pressure for the immediate advancement of the mixture of ethanol in gasoline and biodiesel in diesel, under the justification that the country needs to reduce dependence on fuel imports, especially in periods of international instability such as the war in Iran.

According to government estimates, the advancement of the mixture would represent 450 million liters less of gasoline imports in Brazil. Silveira stated that the measure is essential for energy security and to make the country self-sufficient in fuel supply, “minimizing the impacts of the war that we know is not our war”.

“It’s a war that doesn’t depend on us, but we are taking the necessary measures so that we can have the least possible impact on Brazil. We have to continue with both the exemptions and the [de impostos]so that [o combustível] can arrive at the pump at the lowest price possible”he declared.
