Civil Police seize 50,000 fake World Cup stickers in SP

Operation against piracy also collected more than 1,000 sports t-shirts; 4 people will be investigated

The Civil Police of São Paulo received 50,000 stickers and 1,000 counterfeit albums from the 2026 World Cup this Tuesday (June 9, 2026). The operation by the State Department of Criminal Investigations took place in popular shopping centers in the neighborhoods of Brás and Canindé, in the center of the capital of São Paulo. Police teams also collected 1,039 Brazilian team t-shirts.

The 1st DIG Police Station (General Investigations Division), specialized in combating piracy, coordinated inspections of commercial establishments. The teams carried out searches in stores located on Avenida Rangel Pestana, in Brás, and on Ruas Vautier and Alexandrino Pedroso, in Canindé.

According to the Government of SP, Deic teams intensified the fight against the sale of pirated products due to the proximity of the start of the World Cup. The period leading up to the sporting competition sees an increase in demand for items related to the event and increases the circulation of counterfeit goods on the market.

On May 28, Deic agents had already seized approximately 85,000 World Cup albums and stickers. On that occasion, 2,000 counterfeit national team shirts were also collected from stores in the center of the capital. Five people were arrested red handed.

The 4 people caught in the commercial establishments being inspected will be charged with crimes against industrial property. In the previous operation, carried out on May 28, 5 people were arrested in the act based on the General Sports Law.
