Randolfe: PEC 6×1 deadline can be discussed, but reduction in working hours is immediate

The government leader in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), stated this Tuesday (9) that he hopes that the Senate will debate the transition period for the full validity of the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) to end the 6X1 working day. Randolfe argues that the deadline is long and the maximum working day of 40 hours should come into effect as soon as the text is promulgated.

“In the Senate, there is an environment that considers the transition period to be too long… Why does it only have to come into force in 60 days? This is a debate that has been going on since 1988”, Randolfe told journalists.

The senator said he believes that the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), has “sympathy” for the text and is willing to talk to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) about the topic, even after the raids over the rejection of Jorge Messias’ nomination to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

For Randolfe, there is a “favorable climate” in the Senate for the approval of the reduction in working hours and that the text must be processed quickly. “I think there will only be one commission and we will vote soon. Let’s vote soon”, he said.

The declaration comes at a time when it is being calculated whether the PEC will only go through the Constitution and Justice Committee or will also have to be analyzed by a special committee – even though the Senate rules do not make this provision.

The government leader also stated that he was unaware of any talks regarding payroll relief to compensate for any losses in the production sector.
