French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy will attend the G7 summit in France next week to renew agreement on Ukraine’s support in the war against Russia. This was reported by the TASR news agency with reference to the report of the AFP agency.

During a meeting with representatives of civil society at the Elysee Palace, Macron explained that he considers Zelensky’s presence crucial precisely to re-establish unity within the G7 in support of Kyiv in various aspects of the conflict, including the need for negotiations. In this context, he pointed to the different attitudes between some European leaders and US President Donald Trump.
Restoring Consensus
The French president specified that Zelenskyj should come to the meeting that will take place on Tuesday morning as part of the G7 summit. The venue will be the French spa town of Évian on the southern shore of Lake Geneva.
At the same time, Macron announced an expanded format of negotiations for leaders from non-European countries as well. According to him, the highest representatives of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates should be invited to Tuesday’s meeting to discuss developments in the Middle East together with G7 members.
Middle East agenda
The discussion should focus mainly on the situation in the area of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, the closure of which, according to Macron, really affects the economies of the affected countries, especially due to the sharp increase in fuel prices. The next topic is supposed to be the negotiations on Iran.
Macron emphasized that he considers it extremely important to look for ways and tools of cooperation on these issues, in close coordination between the G7 states and regional partners from the Middle East.
