Emergency doctors are called too often and better training for paramedics is required

While several years of paramedic training have long been introduced in neighboring countries, in Austria 80 percent of emergency paramedics who have had less than 300 hours of training still go to emergencies. Only one in five people has completed training that is around three times as long: as an emergency paramedic. They can provide patients with emergency medical care to a certain extent independently until the emergency doctor arrives and, with appropriate additional training, can also administer certain medications. In international comparison, there is still a lot of room for improvement in the scope of this training.
