A body wrapped in a black bag was found in the parking lot of a shopping center in Tijuana, this Friday (12), less than 300 meters from the stadium where the Iranian football team trains for the World Cup.
Police found the body in the trunk of a gray Toyota model RAV4, parked since last Tuesday (9).
Parking guard Rafael Lopez told Reuters he alerted employees at the Calimax supermarket, who called authorities after smelling a strong odor coming from the vehicle.
The body showed signs of violence, according to the Baja California state prosecutor’s office.
The discovery comes amid disorganization in Iran’s preparations for the World Cup. Fifteen members of the Iranian football federation for security reasons, which forced the team to leave at the last minute.
Iran’s World Cup team supervisor, Mahdi Mohammad Nabi, told Reuters he had never seen “such a lack of coordination” at a World Cup.
Iran faces New Zealand on Monday (15), in its debut in Group G of the World Cup, on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
