The expectation that a peace agreement between the United States and Iran will be reached this weekend grew this Saturday morning, the 13th. At the beginning of the day (8 am Brazilian time), the Pakistani government announced via social media that the agreement must be signed within 24 hours. Then, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, reposted the message on his Truth Social profile.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s message says a peace deal between the US and Iran is on the horizon. “We are closer to a peace agreement than ever before. With finalization likely within the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace agreement immediately afterwards, followed by technical-level talks next week,” Sharif wrote in a post on his X profile.
“We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their continued commitment during the negotiations, and we extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in the region for their support. We are confident that this historic peace agreement will form a solid foundation for lasting peace,” the post continues.
On Truth Social, Trump posted at 11am today and simply presented a “print” of the original post made on X by Sharif, without adding any statement.
This Friday, the 12th, the North American president accused the Iranian government of passing false information about the agreement to the country’s press. “The terms that Iran leaked to the fake news press have nothing to do with the terms that were agreed to in writing,” Trump wrote. The president also accused Iran of acting in bad faith in the negotiations. “With them, there is no negotiation in good faith,” he declared.
In turn, the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) and sources linked to Tehran’s negotiating team stated that the text still depends on internal approval and denied reports that the signing would take place on Sunday, in Geneva.
