Trump tells Putin he is ready to help end the conflict in Ukraine

United States President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday that ending the conflict in Ukraine is crucial and said he was ready to help, Russian news agencies reported, citing Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov.

“With regard to the conflict in Ukraine, Donald Trump again emphasized ‌that the cessation of hostilities was vital,” Ushakov told journalists, according to the agencies.

“He said he was ready to act with European partners and Kiev, including in negotiations at the G7 summit,” he added, referring to the summit of G7 industrialized countries taking place this week in France.

Ushakov told journalists that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who led US-mediated talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, will soon pay another visit to Russia.

Diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine have stalled, as Washington remains focused on the conflict in Iran.

During their phone conversation this Sunday, Trump and Putin discussed the latest diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the conflict in Iran, Ushakov said.

“The situation around the memorandum between the US and Iran was discussed,” Ushakov said, according to the report.

“Donald Trump said a deal is close and hopes the results of difficult but successful negotiations can be released.”

Ushakov also said that Putin congratulated Trump on his 80th birthday in an “informal” way.
