Police find 34 human fetuses buried on property in Poland

Authorities in Poland found 34 human fetuses or fetal fragments buried on a property in the southeastern city of Lutoryż during an investigation led by police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Rzeszów District Prosecutor’s Office, the discovery occurred after a large amount of medical waste was found during earthworks at the site.

According to investigators, among the materials found were paraffin blocks, microscope slides and human remains that were later identified by experts as human fetuses.

Authorities reported that the current owners of the property had purchased the property from a pathologist.

A 57-year-old woman, identified as Magdalena H., was arrested and ordered to preventive detention for three months by a court in the city of Rzeszów. She is being investigated on suspicion of desecrating a corpse, improper waste handling and irregular disposal of hazardous waste.

According to the Public Ministry, the crimes investigated can result in sentences of up to 12 years in prison.

The investigation mobilized hundreds of police officers over several days. The searches relied on trained sniffer dogs to locate human remains and the use of ground-penetrating radar to examine the terrain.

Rzeszów Police reported that officers carried out a thorough inspection of the property, including sifting through large volumes of earth to preserve possible evidence.

Activities at the site ended on Saturday (13), after the completion of sweeps and preliminary analyses.

Authorities say the investigation continues and that, due to the current stage of the process, they will not release any further details about the case at this time.
