After IPO in the USA, mining company accelerates rare earths project in Bahia

Rare Earths Americas, a rare earth mining company with projects in the United States and Brazil, hired global consultancy Hatch to advance the technical studies of the Alpha project, a rare earth asset located in Bahia.

The hiring comes just over a month after the company completed an initial public offering of shares in the United States, in which it raised approximately US$63.3 million in gross proceeds. The company’s shares began trading on the NYSE American in May.

According to a statement to the market, Hatch will be responsible for the initial assessment of Alpha. The study will focus on the initial mining plan, metallurgy, infrastructure, licensing overview and project economics.

The first phase of the assessment should be completed in 6 to 8 weeks. The complete initial assessment is scheduled for the beginning of 2027.

The company also informed that it intends to advance, in parallel, in preparatory stages for a future pre-feasibility study, known as PFS. Rare Earths Americas plans to drill 13,400 meters at the Alpha project over the remainder of the year.

The objective of the survey campaign is to raise the classification of mineral resources from inferred to measured and indicated, categories of greater geological confidence.

The Alpha project is a rare earth asset in ionic clays located in Bahia. According to company data, the project brings together 36 licenses and more than 496 km² of areas, with a mineral resource estimated at 201.7 million tons.

The company claims that neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium represent more than 24% of the oxides contained in the project. These elements are used in the high-performance permanent magnet chain, with applications in electric vehicles, wind turbines, defense, electronics and robotics.

In a statement, Rare Earths Americas CEO Donald Swartz said Hatch’s hiring represents a “critical” step in accelerating Alpha development.

“As global demand for secure sources of heavy rare earths outside of China intensifies, we are moving forward with urgency and discipline,” he said.

Despite progress, the project is still in the study phase. Steps such as pre-feasibility, engineering, licensing, metallurgical testing and definition of the processing route will still be necessary before an eventual investment decision.

Rare Earths Americas presents itself as an exploration-stage company, focused on developing a portfolio of heavy rare earth assets in the United States and Brazil.
