Minister wants to know why the former president kept a pistol at home during stay-at-home order and questions the search of cars in the condominium
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from determined this Tuesday (June 16, 2026) that the defense of the former president (PL) explain within 24 hours the seizure of a firearm by the Military Police of the Federal District registered in the name of the former Chief Executive. The episode took place on Monday night (June 15).
The seizure was made at a blockade point in Pitão Norte, in Brasília (DF). The vehicle approached was driven by a military man identified as Estácio Leite da Silva, who works in the former president’s security detail. The PM-DF confirms that it seized a weapon during the approach (read note below).
In testimony, the soldier stated that “the weapons were handed over to him due to the discovery of a breakdown, which, according to him, appeared to be an easy solution”, and that “removed the weapon on June 15th with the purpose of repairing the firing pin, clarifying that, after completion of the service, the weapon would be returned on June 16th”.
The minister wants to know why the former president kept a pistol at home during the humanitarian house arrest granted for 90 days. Moraes also wants to know why Bolsonaro requested weapons repairs. Read the of the decision (PDF – 130 kB).
He also asks for clarification from the command of the 19th Battalion of the PM-DF, responsible for the security measures of Bolsonaro’s home regime, to find out whether the inspection of cars leaving the former president’s house is being fully complied with, including official vehicles that provide security.

“The Military Police of the Federal District informs that, during an approach carried out in the early hours of this Monday (June 15, 2026), at DF-001, Km 79, in front of Tag Park, in Taguatinga, a Brazilian Army soldier who was driving an official vehicle was taken to the 21st Police Station after being found, in addition to the institutional weapon regularly carried, a second firearm inside the vehicle.
“During the incident, the person approached reported that he did not have documentation for the second weapon and declared that the weapon belonged to a third party. In view of the facts, the weapon and the driver were taken to the 21st DP.
“The identification of the ownership, origin, regularity and possible linking of the seized weapon to any person will depend on the analysis of the competent bodies, especially the authorities responsible for the investigation.”
