Mbappé becomes France’s top scorer of all World Cups

French football player Kylian Mbappé became this Tuesday (June 16, 2026) the top scorer in the history of the French national team, with 58 goals. The milestone was reached after the striker scored 2 goals in the match against Senegal, valid for Group I of the World Cup, at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey (USA).

During the match, Mbappé surpassed Fontaine as France’s top scorer in World Cups (13) and Olivier Giroud, who had a goal difference of 57 wearing his national team’s shirt.

Of the 58 goals for France, 14 were scored during World Cups. If he scores just 3 more goals, Mbappé will become the greatest scorer in the history of the tournament. He now occupies 3rd place, tied with Gerd Müller (Germany) and behind only Ronaldo (Brazil, 15 goals) and Miroslav Klose (Germany, 16 goals).

At 27 years old, Mbappé is captain of the French team and is already in his 3rd World Cup. He was champion on his debut, in 2018, in Russia, and runner-up in 2022, in the Qatar Cup.
