In the publication, Eduardo took a photo of Moraes next to Voldemort, a character from the Harry Potter franchise, and wrote the following: “I have been living in the USA for 1 year and 4 months. The press reports – as I was never notified about this process – that I have now been convicted of a crime committed in the USA. Is it possible that Brazilian justice is quicker than that of the USA in investigating and punishing crimes committed in the USA?”.

Voldemort is the main villain of the book and film series “Harry Potter”. Created by British writer JK Rowling, the wizard seeks to dominate the magical world and eliminate those he considers inferior. The character is known for his pale appearance, the absence of a nose and the use of dark clothes.

Moraes has been a frequent target of Eduardo’s criticism.

The total value corresponds to R$ 162.1 thousand. The Court also determined the loss of the position of clerk of the Federal Police and the ineligibility of the former deputy.

The effects of conviction. After the publication of the ruling, the defense may present appeals. As the judgment was unanimous, the most likely instrument is the motion for clarification, used to challenge any omissions, contradictions or unclear sections of the decision.

The sentence will only be executed after the final judgment, when the possibilities for appeal end. Eduardo cannot be arrested solely because of the sentence before this stage, unless the STF orders preventive detention.

If there is a definitive conviction or arrest order, Brazil may request the extradition of the former deputy. The request will depend on the analysis of authorities in the United States, the country where Eduardo has lived since February 2025.
