After the election defeat, Viktor Orbán denies that his pro-Russian policy would have influenced the result

Viktor Orbán visited Brussels for the first time after the defeat of Fidesz. He denies that he lost the election because of pro-Russian politics. He claims to be a patriot and looks elsewhere for the culprits.

Former Hungarian prime minister and leader of the opposition Fidesz party Viktor Orbán visited Brussels on Wednesday for the first time since his election defeat in April, while the country is already represented by new prime minister Péter Magyar at the two-day European Union (EU) summit starting on Thursday. In front of journalists, Orbán denied that his pro-Russian policy contributed to the loss of Fidesz. With reference to the nepszava.hu server, the TASR correspondent in Budapest informs about it.

“No pro-Russian party ran in the elections. Hungarian parties ran, Fidesz is a patriotic party, we promote a pro-Hungarian policy,” Orbán responded.

The ex-prime minister responded evasively or irritated to questions about corruption concerning his family and the state of health care, writes the server, according to which the chairman of Fidesz repeatedly declared in this regard: “I am a man of facts and not of speculations and assumptions.”

On the subject of European funds, Orbán pointed out that he wanted to get the frozen money back by threatening to veto the future EU budget, which, according to experts, is legally and politically unrealistic.

Migration and fines

On the issue of migration, he again rejected the migration pact and claimed that transit zones did not exist in Hungary, although his own government created them, and the country still pays a fine of one million euros a day for violating EU law, adds nepszava.hu.

On Wednesday, Orbán attended the event of the European political faction Patriots for Europe (PfE), which his Fidesz party co-founded.
