On Thursday, the Čadčian workplace of the District Court (OS) Žilina decided on the punishment for 32-year-old Simona B., who is accused of the particularly serious crime of murdering her three-year-old son. In July last year, she killed him and then pretended to drown him in Liptovská Mara. The district court sentenced her to 17 years in prison. The judgment is not final, both parties have kept the legal deadline for possible appeal.

The tragedy happened in July 2025, when Simona B. called the emergency line and alerted the rescuers from the shore of Liptovská Mary, saying that her child was drowning and she was trying to revive him. However, the subsequent police investigation showed that the child was wearing dry clothes and had already been dead an hour before the rescuers arrived. According to the indictment, she killed her son by a combination of strangulation and strangulation, using a pillow and a bathrobe belt. She acted under the influence of meth.

At the end of last year, the prosecutor tentatively agreed with the accused on the wording of the plea agreement, the essence of which was an unconditional prison sentence of 19 years. However, Simona B. did not accept the agreement directly in the courtroom. In May, after the presentation of the indictment, she made a declaration of guilt, in which she admitted to committing the act.

Psychiatrist Ján Uhrin stated in his expert opinion that the defendant is not mentally ill. She was diagnosed with meth addiction syndrome. He also has an unbalanced personality structure with dominant traits of emotional instability and impulsiveness.

In his closing speech, the prosecutor proposed a 20-year sentence for the defendant, the defense counsel proposed a 15-year sentence. In the end, the court sentenced the defendant to 17 years of imprisonment, which she will serve in a maximum security prison. At the same time, she was ordered to undergo protective drug addiction treatment.
