Police arrest man after shooting in Times Square

Shots in Times Square, in Manhattan, mobilized the New York police this Thursday (June 18, 2026). According to the NYPD (New York Police Department), a man was arrested at the scene and a firearm was seized. Nobody was injured.

The shots were heard around 4:30 pm (Brasília time), at the intersection of West 44th Avenue and 7th Avenue. Videos posted on social media show the moment people ran after the shots in Times Square.

According to police, officers who arrived at the scene identified a person firing the shots. The identity of the arrested man has not been released. The motivation for the attack was also not revealed.

The NYPD’s alert system reported that there were street closures, traffic delays and public transportation disruptions in the region. The corporation recommended that the population avoid the area and stated that it continues to investigate the circumstances of the case.

Times Square is one of the busiest tourist attractions in New York and has received fans from different countries during the football World Cup.
