Rúben Dias blames journalists for controversy on the beach: “It should never have been a topic”

Rúben Dias defended the National Team’s trip to the beach and pointed the finger at journalists for the controversy generated around the issue, during the press conference held in Palm Beach, before the duel with Uzbekistan for the second round of Group K of the 2026 World Cup.

Asked about the criticism of the players’ trips to the beach, the Portuguese defender was direct: “I think it should never have been a topic and, in large part, it is your fault for sharing this information with people. You can inform people and not create an attractive text to read and create a bad energy atmosphere.”

Rúben Dias also considered that the initiative brought benefits to the team, highlighting the importance of weather conditions and the physical well-being of the players. “I think it’s perfectly normal. Biological knowledge is good for us and, if done at the right times, there are only benefits”, he said.

The Portuguese international also left a word of praise for coach Roberto Martínez for his decision to continue the activity, despite possible criticism: “Even the manager, who wasn’t afraid, even though he knew they were going to do what they did, I take my hat off. It was good for us.”
