Mediterranean Diet Fair distinguishes agri-food innovation in the Algarve

XI Mediterranean Diet Fair presents Governance Model and Projects PRR

The Innovation Award – Mediterranean Diet returns to the Mediterranean Diet Fair, which takes place in Tavira between the 3rd and 6th of September, to distinguish innovative agri-food products developed in the region.

This year’s edition presents a relevant novelty. According to CCDR Algarve, “for the first time, the competition is open to all producers, projects and companies in the Algarve, regardless of their participation in the fair”, expanding the universe of candidates and reinforcing support for innovation in the Algarve agri-food sector.

The initiative aims to distinguish entities based in the Algarve that stand out for developing innovative agri-food products.

At stake are projects resulting from the transfer of knowledge to the agri-food sector, as well as solutions based on innovative processes that contribute to competitiveness, sustainability and valorization of the region’s endogenous resources.

Applications open to entities across the Algarve

The Mediterranean Diet, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is presented by CCDR Algarve as much more than a dietary pattern.

It represents a social and cultural model linked to agriculture, fishing, food production, gastronomy and community sharing, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and respect for biodiversity.

The Innovation Award – Mediterranean Diet is the result of a partnership between the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, IP, the Municipality of Tavira, the Caixa de Crédito Agrícola Mútuo do Sotavento Algarvio and the In Loco Association.

Legal persons or similar entities may apply, including individual entrepreneurs, commercial or civil companies, non-profit associations, cooperatives, producer organizations, foundations, non-governmental organizations, universities, research and development centers and Public Administration bodies.

Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as degree of innovation, economic viability, response to market needs and environmental and social sustainability.

Winners receive prizes and greater visibility

The cash prizes to be awarded are 1,000 euros for first place, 750 euros for second and 500 euros for third.

In addition to the financial distinction, the winning projects will be able to integrate promotion and training actions promoted by partner entities, reinforcing their visibility and development potential.

According to the organization, “the award-winning projects that participate in the XII Mediterranean Diet Fair with their own space will benefit from an increase of 250 euros to the value of the prize awarded”.
