Delegations from the United States and Iran discussed the basis for negotiations aimed at a final agreement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said, according to state news agency Tasnim.
Delegations in Switzerland discussed the remaining clauses needed to begin final negotiations, including releasing Iran’s frozen assets and obtaining sanctions exemptions for the sale of Iranian oil, Baghaei said, adding that “good progress has been made.”
The United States and Iran also agreed that countries would be able to safely pass through the , Baghaei said.
A CNN reached out to the White House for comment.
Negotiations, now concluded, between the US and Iran have been reached, according to a joint statement from mediators Pakistan and Qatar.
The United States and Iran agreed to establish one to provide “political oversight to the mediation,” the statement said.
The chief negotiators will report regularly to the High-Level Committee and lead working groups focused on “nuclear issues, sanctions and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding, as well as other issues,” the statement said.
Clashes between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon have continued despite a ceasefire agreement.
