Then president of the Tuiuti City Council, Careca took over municipal administration as interim mayor in January 1, 2025. This is because his predecessor, the former mayor Amarildo Antonio de Lima (PSB)was ineligible when he ran in the 2024 elections.
In October 2024, the TRE-SP (Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo) rejected Amarildo’s candidacy, who received 46,83% two valid votes.
The body recognized the former mayor’s ineligibility after being convicted on trial for a crime against public administration. THE TSE (Superior Electoral Court) upheld the decision unanimously.
The sentence of one year of open prison was declared extinct on June 29, 2017. According to the Clean Record Lawthe candidate is considered ineligible for eight years after serving the sentence, that is, Amarildo could only run after 2025.
Supplementary Election
A supplementary election occurs when the Electoral Court annuls more than 50% of the total votes in an election, due to the denial of registration or revocation of a candidate elected in the positions of mayor, governor or president of the Republic.
Therefore, a new vote is necessary within a period of 20 to 40 days. Until a new candidate is chosen, the position will be administered on an interim basis.
