Pre-candidate defends reducing the tax burden and states that the model approved by Congress will increase taxation on companies and self-employed professionals
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for the PL, stated this Monday (June 22, 2026) that he intends to carry out a new tax reform if he is elected. According to him, the reform regulations approved by Congress should be suspended to make way for a model based on a gradual reduction in the tax burden.
The statement was made during the event “Industry on the Presidential Candidates’ Agenda”, promoted by the National Confederation of Industry, in Brasília.
Flávio said he voted in favor of the tax reform in Congress, but stated that the proposal ended up producing the highest tax rate on consumption in the world.
“I voted in favor of the reform because I understood that it would bring simplification, but it brought the biggest burden on added value in the world, close to 30%”, declared.
According to him, the exceptions created during the process increased the rate for other sectors of the economy.
“The sectors that were strongest managed to be included outside the rules of the tax reform. And this burden ends up becoming even greater for those who remained inside”he stated.
The senator also criticized the taxation on independent professionals and said he considered the charges provided for in the new legislation excessive.
“How can we talk about a tax reform that will take almost 30% of the profit of a self-employed professional, doctor, lawyer or dentist, and another 10% on anything that exceeds R$50,000 to transfer the money from the legal entity to the individual? It’s crazy”, declared.
According to Flávio, rising taxes tends to encourage default and tax evasion.
“It is obvious that this will lead to default and tax evasion”these.
The pre-candidate stated that his proposal would be to interrupt the regulation of the current reform to discuss a new model.
“When I talk about this, I’m going to suspend the regulation of tax reform. It’s to give us time to carry out a real tax reform, with a reduction in the tax burden over the years, predictability and fiscal adjustment”he declared.
PARAGUAY
When criticizing the government’s economic policy, Flávio Bolsonaro stated that former Finance Minister Fernando Haddad was encouraging the migration of Brazilian companies to Paraguay because of the high tax burden and high interest rates.
According to him, the minister could be considered “the best president of Paraguay’s economy”.
“The biggest problem in Brazil today is called the Lula government. Not surprisingly, former Finance Minister Fernando Haddad was elected the best president of the Paraguayan economy, with more than 200 companies transferred from Brazil to there.”he declared.
The senator then stated that the neighboring country offers more favorable conditions for investments, with cheaper energy and greater legal security, and said that this would be the “legacy” left by the current Brazilian government.
