Caiado’s allies pressure PSD to close alliances with other parties

Allies of pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) have been putting pressure on the party leadership to close alliances with other parties focused on increasing television time. According to pre-campaign sources, radio and TV campaigns should be the former governor of Goiás’ main electoral bets.

Currently, the PSD has 59 seconds of time in mandatory party advertising, which only starts in August. Internally, Caiado’s team wants to gain at least another minute of time to face the campaigns of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) and Lula (PT).

The path, however, must be arduous. The Centrão parties have held on to support definitions amid political polarization and the Banco Master scandal, which affected high-ranking names at the top of the bloc. To date, Caiado has no ongoing negotiations with parties.

There is an expectation behind the scenes that the governor will open conversations with Renan Santos, from Missão, thinking about an alliance. The thesis, however, is practically discarded internally in the PSD. Even with Missão’s support, the party would maintain the same 59 seconds of TV time — Missão has only one federal deputy, Kim Kataguiri (Missão-SP), which would not change the situation for the party.
