NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte praised President Donald Trump’s leadership during the war in Iran, saying his actions reduced the country’s nuclear capabilities.
Speaking to the press alongside Trump in the Oval Office, Rutte also credited the president for increased defense spending by NATO allies.
He presented a chart called “Trump Trillion,” which showed one from Europe and Canada since Trump took office, totaling more than $1.2 trillion.
At the same time, Rutte maintained a diplomatic balance by defending Europe’s support for the US during , after Trump said he was “for not doing enough.”
The NATO chief highlighted that up to 5,000 took off from Europe during the conflict.
“I would say it would have been very difficult without having Europe as a force projection platform for the United States,” he said.
