Storms bring devastating floods to Kentucky with four dead. A state of emergency has been declared and authorities are warning of further extreme rainfall.

Flooding caused by storms in the US state of Kentucky has claimed at least four lives, state governor Andy Beshear said on Sunday night. A state of emergency has been declared in the state of Kentucky as authorities expect more heavy rainfall, the AP reported.

Flash flood warnings were in effect Saturday not only for parts of Kentucky, but also for Indiana. By Saturday afternoon, the National Weather Service (NWS) said 10 to 25 inches of rain had already fallen in some areas of southwest Indiana. Gov. Beshear’s office said up to 6 inches of rain is expected in parts of Kentucky by Saturday evening.

Gov. Beshear took to social media to urge Kentucky residents to stay alert and stay off the road, especially after dark when visibility is reduced. As a result of heavy rainfall, several roads were flooded and several bridges were damaged in the affected areas.
