Cruel toll for cooling off in tropical hell: An alarming number of drowned people are reported in our neighbors!

High temperatures in Poland on Monday caused widespread problems on the railways, with 128 trains canceled in the morning, and dozens of people drowned in the country over the weekend. This is reported by the Warsaw correspondent TASR, according to the PAP agency.

  • In Poland, extreme heat caused extensive problems on the railway on Monday.
  • Damaged traction lines and deformed tracks led to disruption of trains.
  • Passengers can return tickets purchased until June 29th free of charge.
  • Since the beginning of June, the authorities in Poland have already recorded fifty-five cases of drowning.
  • They measured a record forty five degrees Celsius in Slubice.

The Polish State Railways Administration PKP PLK said that the reason for the restrictions was the failure of the traction line and the deformation of the tracks caused by the heat. The national carrier PKP Intercity canceled 21 connections and provided alternative bus transport or recognition of travel tickets in regional trains for several others. At the same time, passengers can return tickets purchased no later than June 29 free of charge until July 2.

On Monday, the railway workers resumed traffic on three lines, where it was possible to remove damage to the infrastructure from the weekend. According to PKP PLK, the technical components remain on standby in case of further malfunctions.

At the same time, tragic events near the water are increasing. The Government Security Center reported that on Sunday, 17 people drowned, the highest daily number since the beginning of June. During the entire weekend, 24 people lost their lives, and since the beginning of the month, the authorities have already registered 55 drownings. Several other people were taken to hospitals after being pulled from the water.

The highest heat warnings remain in effect for a large part of Poland. Meteorologists expect daily temperatures of up to 39 degrees Celsius. A temperature record was set in the village of Slubice near the border with Germany on Sunday. The temperature reached 40.5 degrees Celsius, breaking the record set in 1921 in the village of Proszkow in the south of the country.
