World record for buffalo milk production is held by Brazil

Her name is Serena, the newest record holder for buffalo milk production in the world!!! In two milkings, and a single day, he produced 40,250 kilos of milk.

The brand was registered in the dairy tournament at ExpassAgro, an agricultural fair held 60 years ago in the city of Passos, in the south of Minas Gerais.

Serena is 4 and a half years old and belongs to Mantiqueira Buffalo Farmby producer Thiago Quirino Mansfeld. He is the third generation of a family dedicated to buffalo farming. The property is located in Piquete (SP), at the foot of Serra da Mantiqueira.

The buffalo broke the record set by the Búfalas da Mantiqueira Farm itself, recorded in 2024 with the production of 39,820 kilos of milk. At the time, the farm surpassed an index registered in Pakistan, and since then it has remained on the world podium.

“Serena is the result of many years of genetic selection, combined with technical management, balanced nutrition and the daily work of our entire team. This result is not from a single animal, or a single person. It is the consequence of a project built over 30 years and which shows the potential of Brazilian buffalo farming”, says Thiago Mansfeld.

The award crowns the work of , the main activity.

The herd has 800 animals, 180 of which are lactating females, which produce 2 thousand liters of milk per day. Production continues to expand. This year the milking parlor was restructured and the goal is to milk 300 buffaloes per day. The current average production (with investments in genetics, management and nutrition) is 12.5 liters per animal.

Buffaloes produce less milk than cattle. The average for the Brazilian squad is between 7 and 10 liters per day. However, milk is very rich in fat and solids, which guarantee better performance in the production of derivatives.

Another highlight, which adds a lot of value to the final product, is the genetic potential of buffaloes to produce milk of the same type. A2A2considered easier to digest and which has been gaining more and more space in the market.

“From the beginning, our focus was on the selection of animals with dairy aptitude. However, in recent years, the activity has become more professional with careful genetic selection, investments in reproduction and the choice of the best matings! says Thiago about the gains in production.

The result came in awards and recognition: In 2023, the farm achieved the national production record. And the following year, his first world record. Now, with Serena, the farm remains at the top, attracting attention from those interested in the activity and from around the world.
