Abidjan/Accra – Heavy rains have led to sometimes fatal floods in several West African coastal countries. According to the government, 59 people have died in Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire) since the rainy season began in May. In neighboring Ghana, 12 people died in floods earlier this week, authorities there reported. Rainfall on Monday flooded large parts of the capital Accra and the surrounding region. There were also floods in Benin.
