Arrested in Vilamoura suspected of attempted murder with a firearm

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Saturday in Vilamoura, in the Algarve, due to “strong indications” of attempted murder with a firearm that caused “serious injuries” to the victim, the PJ revealed this Sunday.

“The Judicial Police [PJ] detained this Saturday […] a 21-year-old man, due to strong evidence of the crime of attempted homicide, using a firearm, which occurred on September 29th, in the municipality of Loulé, with the victim being a 24-year-old man”, according to a statement from the police responsible for the criminal investigation.

The PJ states that the attack arose as a result of “an altercation related to debt issues” and that the suspect was accompanied by another person during the attempted murder.

According to the report from this criminal investigation force, three shots were fired in total, but only one hit the victim, causing “serious injuries that put his life at risk”.

The victim survived after emergency services intervened and was taken to the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, according to .

The suspect ended up being located this Saturday in Vilamoura and was detained “following the collection of relevant” evidence, and the murder weapon was also recovered, the note adds.

Present to the competent judicial authorities, the measure of coercion of periodic appearances at a police station was applied to him, concludes the PJ statement.
