Off the southern coast of the island nation of Cuba, near the city of Santiago de Cuba, they recorded a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 on Sunday, Reuters reported. The American Geophysical Institute (USGS) initially set the strength of the quake at 5.8, as reported by Reuters and AFP.
The USGS estimates that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a depth of 14.2 kilometers below the surface of the ocean, in an area located about 22 kilometers from the coast of the city of Bartolomé Masó in the southern Cuban province of Granma.
A tsunami warning has not been issued. Information on possible victims or material damage is currently not available.
