Trump: “I will impose duties in the EU, we have behaved very badly”

ΗΠΑ: Από 1η Φεβρουαρίου οι δασμοί στα προϊόντα από τον Καναδά, το Μεξικό και την Κίνα

The US president announced tonight that he would “certainly” impose duties on European products, without specifying when.

“We will do something very essential with the tariffs in the European Union,” reporters told reporters at the Oval Office. “If I will impose duties on the EU? Do you want the actual answer or diploma? Certainly. The EU has behaved very badly, “he added.

Trump also said that Canada, Mexico and China can no longer do anything to avoid duties, adding that petroleum, oil and gas duties will also be imposed, probably until February 18.

Earlier, the White House announced that from tomorrow, February 1st, 25% duties will be imposed on all imported products from Canada and Mexico and 10% on China. But Trump said he would probably reduce tariffs on Canadian oil to 10%.

Trump acknowledged that duties could cause a short -term market unrest, as the cost sometimes passes to the consumer. But he added that “he is not interested in” market reaction.

The US president also reiterated the threat of “taking back the Panama Canal” and assured that Egypt and Jordan “will get people from Gaza”.

‘All federal employees are consumable’

A large number of federal officials accepted the proposal of the Trump government that provides them with financial incentives to resign from their work as part of a draft draging the size of the government, a White House official said tonight.

Deputy Chief Steven Miller said he did not have the exact number, but the first updates on the matter have shown that many federal employees accept the offer.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, Donald Trump himself said that “all federal employees are consumable”, adding: “Our dream is for people to work in the private sector, not in the public.”
