Temporary Syrian president arrived in Saudi Arabia

This is the first foreign visit to the new Syrian president.

Syrian temporary President Ahmad Šara arrived on Sunday to Saudi Arabia for his first foreign visit from the overthrow of Bashar Assad, AFP reported, TASR writes.

During his visit, Shara will meet de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman. Their meeting will take place in Riyadh, but for now it is not known when this will happen.

Šara, whose Islamist rebel grouping Organization for Liberation Levant (HTS) at the end of 2024 led the offensive for Assad’s overthrow, was appointed temporary President Syria on Wednesday. Saudi King Salman and his son, Prince Muhammad, were among the first to congratulated him to his official appointment.

The Syrian authorities count on the fact that the rich Gulf countries will help to finance the renewal of their warned country and help to revive its economy. In this context in Damascus, on Thursday, Emir Šejk, Cathar’s Emir Hamad, adopted by Bin Hamad Sáni, who “stressed the urgent need to create a government representing a whole spectrum of Syrian society” to “consolidate stability and progress in reconstruction, development and prosperity projects”.
