The clamor for the defense of the firewall on the extreme right toured on Sunday Germany, two days after the leader of the conservative block, Friedrich Merz will fail in his attempt to carry out a law on immigration policy thanks to the support of the radical alternative for Germany (AFD).
The marches for the maintenance of the sanitary cordon have prolonged over the weekend throughout the country, with figures among several thousand protesters, in provinces cities, or until 160,000 on Sunday in Berlin.
In the German capital, the march had been convened before the Federal Parliament (Bundestag) and its objective was to reach the headquarters of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the party led by Merz. Finally, he resigned to continue there for security reasons.
The local delegations of the Conservative Party were already in the days after the concentration point of demonstrations in Hamburg, Hannover, Dresde, Colonia and also cities in the east of the country, where AFD is first force. There were ‘taking’ conatos of some headquarters by leftist protesters, among all kinds of hostile slogans to Merz.
CDU dome meeting
The Berlin march coincided with a meeting of the CDU dome at its headquarters to prepare the congress on Monday. There, its immediate action plan will break down in case of accessing power, after the General elections next February 23.
This plan includes its controversial five points in immigration policy. They are the same as he defended in a non -binding motion against Parliament, last Wednesday, and that he obtained the majority for the support of the AFD. Two days later, however, its purpose of raising a similar project failed to law, although without its most drastic aspects. The five -point plan includes hot deportations of irregular immigrants and the establishment of permanent controls on the borders.
The Social Democrats of Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz and his green partners reject it because it violates international conventions, EU legislation and German Constitution itself. These criticisms were added those of the former former chancellor Angela Merkel, protests of the Jewish community and even Auschwitz survivors.
The polls place the Merz block in first position, with 30 % of the votes. The AFD follows, about ten points below, while Scholz’s social democrats occupy third place. Until now, the AFD is ruled out as a partner by the rest of the parliamentary spectrum.
